History
In 1992, John Dormanen and his wife were raising their six girls when they decided to try something different.
It all started with a simple notion of sustainability: reuse steel by reselling it at a lower price.
They hired a warehouse with 2.5 million pounds of steel and reached a deal with the landlord, and Coremark Metals, formerly Discount Steel, was formed.
Early Growth
The same spirit of innovation that fueled Coremark Metals’ inception is what has kept it going.
Slowly, the focus turned to a far larger vision: to be a symbol of excellence in terms of quality, the value placed on people and families, and innovation and growth.
In 1995, the firm accepted the change and increased its capabilities, introducing its first shear.
The Coremark Metals team adopted a collaborative business style; a culture in which everyone is encouraged to share ideas and each team member has a voice.
That’s when the shift took place. They developed a Quality Control methodology to help meet perfect accuracy standards, designed a coaching and mentoring atmosphere to assist each individual in reaching their personal and professional objectives.
Later on, they extended operations to Fort Worth, Texas, with the potential to ship nationwide and beyond.
Coremark Metals now employs over 120 outstanding employees in Minneapolis and Fort Worth.
Coremark today supplies over 12,000 primary materials, has two in-house Production Centers, an e-commerce site for online transactions, a Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE), and two retail locations that cater to walk-in clients, hobbyists, and artists.

Aluminum
Coremark Metals provides a wide range of aluminum alloys in various forms and sizes such as bar stock, sheet, plate, angles, channels, beams, tubes, and pipe.

Galvanized steel
Coremark Metals provides a wide range of galvanized metal products, including bar stock, angles, channels, tubes, pipe, and sheets.
Galvanized steel is a form of steel that has a protective zinc coating applied to it to prevent corrosion.
The most typical method of galvanizing is hot-dip, which involves cleaning the material to remove rust, oil, and mill scale. Then submerged in a molten zinc bath.
Stainless steel
Stainless steel is an alloy of iron with a minimum of 10.5% chromium which produces a thin layer of oxide on the surface.
This passive layer prevents corrosion of the material, making it ideal for applications such as cutlery, sinks, window fittings, medical instruments, water tanks, and more.
